Kanata Chiropractor, Dr. Michael Gibson
Although my first priority is to relieve a person of discomfort and pain, that is only the beginning…
Health is much more than just being symptom free. I believe high-level wellness is within almost everyone’s reach with the right guidance. After a person’s immediate pain or symptoms have been eliminated, my attention becomes focused on helping you attain an increased level of wellness, which means increased resistance to disease, slower aging, greater energy, better sleep, becoming emotionally and physically hardy, which leads to a more positive attitude, and improved relationships. Robust health (wellness) is a lot more than just not being sick.
I take into account all aspects of my patients’ health including body, mind, and spirit. After discussing your health concerns, and a very thorough physical exam, I will assess your situation to see if yours is a chiropractic case. If it is not, I will refer you to the appropriate healthcare professional. I use a number of highly effective and gentle adjusting approaches to help improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference including Thompson Drop Table, Diversified, SOT, and Activator techniques. My priority is to make sure you have all the information you require to make an informed health choice for you and your family.
I grew up in Kanata and attended Earl of March High School. I studied Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario, and played on the Western Mustangs hockey team. While playing for the Mustangs I realized how important a role my overall health and fitness played in determining my performance. I wasn’t the most talented player on the team but believe I was able to compete because of my dedication to my health and fitness. This awareness created a craving to learn everything I could about the link between health and peak performance.
The search took me to Atlanta, Georgia, where I discovered Life University. It has the biggest chiropractic college in the world, they had a “peak performance” masters program, they offered me a scholarship to play hockey for their intercollegiate team, and the temperature rarely dipped below zero degrees! It was perfect!
I went for the hockey, the “year round” golf, and the chance at a career where I could be my own boss and make my own hours, but returned with an unexpected gift. I truly fell in love with the chiropractic concept and the chiropractic lifestyle. I had been enjoying Chiropractic care since I was a teenager, but thought it was limited to back pain treatment. I couldn’t have been more wrong! I didn’t realize that my “job” would have such an enormous impact on the lives of so many.
It is important to me not to just preach good health habits to my patients, but to practice them as well. Good health has many dimensions; it is important to nourish your body, challenge your mind, and rest yourself to increase your lifespan. Believe me, I know how hard it is to resist dark chocolate (sometimes, ok often, I don't). Presently, my health habits include weekly adjustments, organic food, resistance training, hockey, Ultimate Frisbee, squash, walking with Owen (my chocolate lab), and meditation (the most challenging for me). Most importantly, I strive to find balance in my life.
After completing my studies, and fighting the urge to stay in the sunny south, I decided that Kanata’s young, health conscious, and very active community would be a perfect fit for me, my philosophy, and my specialties.
